Craig Fenton has kindly sponsored 15-year-old Goole motorcycle ace Charlie Atkins for the 2018 season. Atkins finished fifth in the Moto3 standard class category of British Superbikes last year and will be competing for a third year in 2018. It costs around GBP25,000 to complete a season.
The 2017 under-16 Hull Daily Mail Sporting Champions Award winner has also been selected to ride in the inaugural British Talent Cup Championship. This Moto3 series was set up by Dorna Sports, the organisers of MotoGP, to find talented British riders as part of their Road to MotoGP programme.
Craig Fenton from Carlton near Goole has over 11 years of experience in the industry and is both plumbing and gas safe registered. In the 1990s and 2000s his family were involved in sidecar racing including the IOM TT, and he watches as much of the action now as his work allows.
Craig Fenton said,” I met Charlie and his family because I coach him at Goole Rugby Club, where he is also pretty good. From my family’s involvement in the sport, I know how hard it is to find finance to keep going even when you are talented. I’m looking forward to watching him compete in the two different championships this year.”
Charlie Atkins said,” This money means a lot as without sponsorship I can’t continue to race. It is awesome that a local business has helped me out. I’d love to be racing at MotoGP level one day.”
