Goole Moto3 youngster suffered a massive crash at the Cadwell Park circuit on Saturday which saw his bike written off.
The 15-year-old was racing in the sixth round of the Hel Performance British Motostar Championship when he struck a fallen riders bike just after the mountain section of the circuit.
The crash was huge cutting the other riders bike in two as Atkins was flung over the handlebars and onto the circuit. The race was quickly red-flagged and the Marshals and Medical staff were quickly on the scene.
After initially visiting the track Medical Centre it was decided to fly him by air ambulance to Leeds Hospital for further tests.
Miraculously Atkins was later discharged from hospital but decided to sit out the rest of the race weekend as a precaution.
Unfortunately, Atkins Moto3 was written-off in the accident and his participation in the series in now under threat if the family are unable to find the funding before the next round in September.
Charlie Atkins said,” Thank you to all the marshals and the medical team at Cadwell Park. Also to the air ambulance and the staff at Leeds Hospital. I’m OK, a little shaken. I’m sorry to my sponsors but hope we can somehow find the funds to get back on track for Silverstone in September.”
